THE CREATIVE PRESENTATION
I first approached the city in February with the idea that we should be more prepared for emergencies. That when a storm hits, or, god forbid, there is some sort of terrorist attack, we should as a city have a plan in place; If nothing else, a sensible and logical approach to disaster recovery, if we are lacking in the resources to put together a true response team. I was asked to come back in March to present a basic idea and plan to the city council, but towards the end of February I got a call from the mayor, and he thought it might be better to bring it before the planning committee and see what their reaction might be. I agreed. I wasn't ready for a full-blown presentation anyway. So March I went before the planning committee, and they listened, and they voted the whole thing down. Said it was a bit beyond what we needed to do as a city, and that these matters are better left to the state. The mayor was just as disappointed as I was. He was going to let the whole thing just die, but I kept insisting that you can't just ignore a thing like this hoping it will just go away. It won't. He agreed, but said there is little he can do.
